Chicago Heidi Visits St. Paul

Way back on Wednesday, April 15th (it's been a crazy last couple of weeks...), my friend Heidi flew in from Chicago for a visit. Tomkin and I picked her up at the airport, then headed home so she could settle in. Heidi brought a whole bag of lovely gifts, some of which she had picked up during her recent trip to Turkey and others that she'd made herself. We all (including Chloe) walked down Grand Ave. and sat outside at Caribou to chat and enjoy the gorgeous weather. Tomkin headed home (he had poker that night), and Heidi and I went to happy hour at Salut, then got ice cream cones at the Grand Ole Creamery. (I hadn't been there before--the ice cream was fantastic!) We walked home, then looked through some photos. When Tomkin got back from poker, we all went to late-night happy hour at Chino Latino. The service was slow, but the food and drinks were delicious.
Thursday morning we had breakfast at home, and then Heidi and I took Chloe for a nice long walk at the Minnehaha dog park. Tomkin made us lunch, and then we got coffee at Nina's and meandered around Common Good Books (Garrison Keillor's bookstore). We went home and rested, then got ready for Third Thursdays. Tomkin had a wedding rehearsal and made it back just before the party began. This month's featured drink was pina coladas, and it seemed like people were in an especially good mood, maybe because of the tropical-seeming weather. People were great about mixing and mingling, and we all had a really good time.
Since we were up late on Thursday, we slept in Friday morning. One of my clients contacted me about an emergency grant-writing project that needed to be done by Sunday. Ack! Tomkin and Heidi were both great about being flexible and supportive so I'd be able to get it done. Fortunately, we got a week extension on the grant deadline (phew!), so I didn't have to work on it while Heidi was here. It was a gorgeous summerlike day out. All three of us went to the observation deck at the Foshay Tower. It was fun to look out over the city--there are a lot of really cool buildings in Minneapolis. Next we headed to the Walker Sculpture Garden. We wandered around and saw a lovely new windchime exhibit. It was odd to see the Spoonbridge sans cherry (it's being cleaned up/repaired). We picked up some food at Surdyk's and then had a picnic in a park. That was nice and relaxing.... We went home to rest a little more, and Jim & Roxanne stopped by with Watson. (Chloe got very excited!) Heidi and I took Chloe for a walk, then got dinner at Pizza Luce (of course we had to go there at some point, right?). Then Heidi, Tomkin, and I went to Psycho Suzi's and sat out on the patio, where we enjoyed some tator tots and tiki drinks.
Saturday morning we picked up Roxanne and all took a yoga class from Helena at the wonderful Center for Happiness. After we went home and changed, Heidi and I walked down Selby to the new Cheeky Monkey Deli. The place is really cute, and the food was wonderful. Tomkin had a wedding that afternoon, so I drove Heidi to the airport. It was so much fun having her here! I enjoyed hanging out and catching up, and it was also fun to play tourist (although we only did about half of the things on my original itinerary). The rest of the day was really low-key. I cleaned and did some work, Tomkin took Chloe for a walk, and then we curled up and watched some TV. If you'd like to come visit, please contact Chez Coleman for a reservation!
